Adding a device
On the devices page, press the Add a devices button.
The number of devices you can add is controlled by the organisations billing plan.
Name
The name of the device. These names could represent what type of sensor your are simulating.
These names are not unique as, for example, the same sensor could be used in multiple locations.
Description
You can optionally provide a description for the device. For example:
- Temperature sensor in degC
- Its location e.g. Hallway, Kitchen, Store room 4
Protocol type
You must select the protocol type that the device will respond to. See supported protocols.
Channel and Address
The channel and address uniquely identify a device within the organisation. You can add multiple devices with the same channel and address pair, but you can only have one device at a channel and address pair enabled.
These can be used to segregate a network of devices. For example, in a smart home,
all air quality sensors may be on address 10. The channel is then used to separate
the location, ground floor, first floor, garage etc, as they may be on separate physical channels.
